We shall now add the textured strip. Open the Frame and Shadow tool again. Shadow and canvas should still be unchecked, but this time choose Magic Frame. Scroll through the frame presets at the bottom until you find the one selected in the illustration below.
Set all the other options as shown above, then click on the colour square to the right of Gradient. This will select gradient and take you to the Magic Gradient dialogue box (below).
Use Edit to select the gold palette ring. Set the other options as shown above, including selecting Mode 9, the speckled pattern. Click OK to return to the Magic Frame box, where the gold texture will now be showing beside Gradient. Click Add, and add this element of the frame to the Classic Frame Gallery under the name C11b. Click OK to add the texture strip to the frame we are building up in the image.
For the final element of the frame, select the Frame and Shadow tool option again, use 3d frame, and set everything up exactly as for the first element, except that the width is 10. Once again, use Add to put this element in the gallery under the name C11c.
We now have the complete frame in the gallery, where it can be used to frame any picture. I have used it here to frame a small picture of the Madonna and Child. Open the picture you wish to frame. Open the Classic Frame gallery and click first on C11a, then on C11b and finally on C11c. Your picture will be surrounded by the new Classic Frame. I prefer a brighter gold than the one we have here, so we will brighten the frame.
Use the Standard Selection Tool and draw a rectangle exactly surrounding the picture, inside the frame. Use Edit/Selection/Invert, and the frame alone will be selected.
Use Format/Color Balance. In the Colour Balance box click on the Preset Tab. Set the Thumbnail Variation at 10. Click twice on the right hand thumbnail in the top row, once on the right hand one in the middle row, and once on the centre one in the top row. Click OK, and your framed picture now looks like the one on the left.
If you want to brighten or modify the frame like this you cannot do it as you are storing the frame details. Colour adjustments are not stored in the gallery records, and the frame when you use it will be matched to the colour ramp ring palette. So any adjustment of colour, brightness and contrast, etc., must be done after you have framed your image.
