9) Resize the pattern, making sure that Resize All Layers and Keep Aspect Ratio are both checked, and use bilinear resample. You need to reduce the pattern till the lines are narrow outlines. With the pear pattern I resized to 30% of the original size. The illustration shows the whole pattern viewed 1:1. Even thinner lines would be acceptable, but they should not be any wider than these.

10) Check in Selections that nothing is selected (Click on Select None if it is not greyed out).
11) Save this first stage of your image as a .psp file so that the layers are saved.
12) Select the background layer, and in the Layers menu, select View/Current only.
13) Using the magic wand tool, select one enclosed area of your pattern, like a single pear.
14) Choose foreground and background colours which will blend together well to colour the area. For the pear, I chose pale green as the foreground and pale yellow as the background. Pale colours are most successful with this technique.
15)Click on the fill tool, open the control palette, and select Linear Gradient, tolerance and opacity at 100.
16)Click options on the control palette. Set blend mode to normal.
17) Move the hand on the dial till the fill is at the right angle for your selection. The pear is at an angle and we want it to go from green at the top to yellow at the bottom, so get the sample beside the dial at the right angle.

18) Click OK on the control palette and click on the selected pear.

19) Use Selections/Promote to Layer and name the new layer pear 1. The pear layer must be between the background and lead layers. Move it if it is not. Select Layers/View/All.
20) Make sure that pear 1 is the current layer and that the pear is still selected.
21) Open Blade Pro and load the clear glass preset. Select light colours which more or less match the colours you used for the blend for your gradient fill. They don't have to be a perfect match, but get as near as you can, because this is the key to getting the silky look. Apply Blade Pro. Select Selections/None and adjust the pear 1 layer slider till the pear takes on a silky texture. I set the layer slider at 15, but you will adjust them all visually at the end to get the final effect.
