The gel we want to use for our point light is not in the selection of gels loaded with the program. It is in one of the sample images on the Vue Extras CD, so put that in your cd drive. Find on the cd Scenes\Samples 2\Wcaustic.bmp Copy the file to your Program Files\E-on Software\Vue d'Esprit4\Bitmaps folder on your hard drive.
Return to Vue, and right click on the second button down on the light editor, and select 'Light has a gel'. This will bring up the materials selector. Scroll down the list of available collections and select Light Gels. Click on any gel you like, because we are going to have to edit it to add the gel we want to the collection. In the light editor the second button has now turned orange. Click on it again and the gel editor opens.
Click Mapped Picture in colouring mode, and then on the load button which will appear below. Browse to your Vue bitmap folder and select Wcaustic.bmp. Change the X and Y picture scales to 0.75 each. Change the mapping under Effects at the top right to Object - Standard, and the mapping at bottom right to Flat (vertical). You can now save this material to your collection of gels, by clicking on the floppy disc icon at the bottom right of the gel editor. Give it a new name so it will not overwrite whatever gel you loaded originally. I called mine Caustic rays.mat Save it in Program Files\E-on Software\Vue d'Esprit 4\Materials\Light gels Now it will appear in the selection of light gels whenever you use the material selector.
Return now to the light editor and increase the power to 450. With the point light still selected in your list of image components, click the copy button (outlined in red below), and then the paste button (outlined in green).
A second point light, with the same gel and power, will be added to your scene. It will be right on top of your first light. On the next page we will place this where we want it, and then add some fog and haze to enhance the undersea illusion.
